vintage 1961(?) Los Angeles Angels tee

If this thing is as authentic as I honestly think it is, then it just might be one of the rarest pieces of baseball memorabilia you will ever (ever!) see.

Let's get the simple stuff out of the way... it says Los Angeles Angels with a player coming out of a cracked baseball/egg. And it's definitely vintage of some sort.

Okay, onto the research. Of course the LA Angels began play in 1961 (they became the California Angels in '65, Anaheim Angels '97, L.A. Angels of Anaheim '05). And as seeing there is a player coming out of a baseball illustrated like a broken egg (as in, being born), it is safe to assume this is referring to a new team/franchise... thus circa-1961.

Now onto the clues to back up the possible 1961 or early 1960's dating... the tag pictured shows Bantam brand. This is certainly not a new tag, and not even one from the 80's or 90's. It could be 1970's... but my issue is this... there was no market at all for "throwback" or "retro" t-shirts in the 70's. Those terms, and that marketing ploy to sell clothing, didn't even exist then.

So in my professional opinion (I've been collecting and selling vintage sports clothing for over 10 years), I honestly think that this t-shirt is vintage early-1960's. If it's not from 1961 (again, the first year of the LA Angels team), then it has to be before 1965 (when they changed the name for the first time).

Nonetheless... this is vintage baseball apparel at its best.
